Role
End-to-end product
Platforms
iOS, Android, Web
Scope
Product strategy, Product design, Mobile development, Web development, Launch and operations
Lotus Chant brings the essential tools for Nichiren Buddhist practice into one quiet, focused product. Limbatus took it from initial product direction through design, engineering, launch, and ongoing operation across mobile and web.
The challenge
Daily Gongyo and Daimoku practice has a distinct rhythm. Practitioners need access to the liturgy, a reliable timer, clear audio, and gentle reminders, but many digital products introduce the same attention-seeking patterns people are trying to leave behind.
The challenge was to make technology useful without letting it become the center of the practice. Every feature needed to earn its place, remain easy to understand, and work with as little friction as possible.
A product built around focus
The product direction was deliberately restrained: no social feed, no competitive streaks, and no account required. The interface uses generous spacing, clear type, restrained motion, and a calm visual system so the screen can support the session without demanding attention.
Morning and evening Gongyo, timed and open-ended Daimoku, pronunciation support, reminders, and practice history are organized around the routines practitioners already have. Dark mode, adjustable text, haptics, and keep-awake controls let the experience adapt without adding noise.
What we built
- A Daimoku timer and stopwatch with a clear end-of-session gong
- Gongyo liturgy with pronunciation and audio support
- Local practice history, progress summaries, and a Daimoku counter
- Morning and evening reminders scheduled directly on the device
- Widgets, quick actions, and iOS Live Activities
- Lotus+, with subscriptions and downloadable premium gong sounds
- A multilingual marketing site, guide library, support flow, and product APIs
Core chanting tools continue to work offline. Practice history and preferences stay on the device, preserving a private experience while keeping the app fast and dependable.
Engineering the complete product
The mobile product is delivered with Expo and EAS across iOS and Android, including over-the-air updates and native platform features. RevenueCat manages store purchases and Lotus+ entitlements, while Cloudflare R2 delivers premium audio through short-lived signed URLs.
The public website and guide library are built with Astro and deployed on Vercel. Server endpoints support daily content, translations, image generation, entitlement checks, and the contact flow. PostHog provides deliberately limited product analytics, and Resend handles support messages.
This architecture keeps the core practice local and resilient while giving the product a maintainable path for content, premium features, and ongoing releases.
The outcome
Lotus Chant launched on both the App Store and Google Play in 2026. It now provides one coherent experience across the app, website, subscriptions, support, and content operations.
The result reflects the original principle: everything needed for daily practice, without turning that practice into another source of digital distraction.
The Product
Quiet by design.
